Seems like lots of customers and potential customers are struggling with a good approach for implementing Fusion Applications. With the discussion starting to build momentum, I thought I'd throw in my two cents.Approach the implementation project as a solution-driven implementation rather than a requirements-driven project.1. Install the apps, which is an entirely different discussion in and of itself.2. Use Oracle Fusion Functional Setup Manager to configure and setup the applications. Nothing fancy here...just follow the directions.3. Enter some seed data, execute the business processes as…

Oracle Hyperion Disclosure Management supports the latest taxonomy, enabling financial managers to easily comply with the latest filing requirements. What Happens in Vegas, Doesn't Always Have to Stay in Vegas
2 May 2012 | 8:55 amSorry I don't have anything steamy to report from my trip to Las Vegas for Collaborate 2012 last week. But there was plenty happening – 6,000 people and lots of Fusion buzz. The flash mob during Mark Sunday's keynote was something to see. It descended on the audience wearing red Fusion t-shirts whooping and hollering, passing out Fusion buzz cards and giving away coveted Fusion swag. I loved hearing people trade Fusion stories and watch them pack the Fusion sessions. I was at the conference to work with a camera crew to capture what people are saying about Fusion Applications… -

Financial Management in the Cloud: Is It Right for Your Business?
25 Apr 2012 | 10:27 amA guest post by Terrance Wampler, Vice President, Financials Product Strategy, Oracle In my last post, we explored the pros and cons of SaaS as compared to the traditional software delivery model. Now, here are some proof points to help you make the decision about moving to the cloud. Start by asking your IT department what they’ve done with cloud services. What worked, and, more importantly, what didn't work? If there was a problem, was it about service levels? Cost negotiation? Or was the provider not good? What they learned can help the success of future projects. The second thing… -
HR, The Cloud, and Flexible Options
19 Apr 2012 | 5:29 pmA guest post by Steve Boese, Director, Talent Strategy, Oracle One of the most helpful consumer technology breakthroughs in the last 15 years or so, (no I am not going to say the iPhone), has been the consumer’s ability to track the movement and delivery of packages at just about every step along the shipment process. Think about it, it was not that long ago when ordering some new clothes or a holiday gift from a mail order catalog, (anyone under 30 may have to ask an older colleague how that worked), resulted in an almost daily ritual of wondering when the package would arrive; and for…

Oracle Enterprise Data Quality Address Verification Server Makes its Debut and Joins Oracle Enterprise Data Quality
27 Mar 2012 | 7:59 pmData quality – has many flavors to it. Product, Customer – you name the data domain and there’s data quality associated with it. Address verification and data quality are a little different. in that there is a tremendous amount of variation as well as nuance attached to it. Specifically, what makes address verification challenging is that more often than not, addresses are incomplete, riddled with misspellings, incorrect postal codes are assigned to locations or non-address items are present. Almost all data has locations, and accurate locations power a… -

Of course that statement turned a few heads. He talked about the special codes that were needed for machine settings to make the proper parts. Over a period of time, he was able to memorize these complex…

Beyond the Conditional Dialog
11 May 2012 | 4:14 pmInteresting question today, asking how to conditionally underline and align text in an RTF template?Your first thought, the conditional dialog box in the Template Builder for Word right? Mine too, but I know that the dialog is limited to setting the background color, font color and font style. However, the XSLFO standard has a bunch of attributes that can be set. There is going to an intersect of what the standard offers and what BI Publisher has implemented. Ots also going to depend on what version of BIP you are running too as the boys and gals in the back room constantly add to the list of… -
Port 80 Goodness for Publisher
8 May 2012 | 5:12 pmDo you ever tire of remembering what port BIP is running on when you enter the URL? Ever wish you could just type: http://tdexter-lap/xmlpserver and be done with it? Well its really not that hard to do. Its documented how to front the web logic server with a web server whether that be Microsoft's IIS or maybe Apache. Well with my success at getting BIP on to my Ubuntu laptop I thought I would give Apache a whirl being as I dont think IIS would run on my machine :) I did start off with the docs but as usual Googling got me faster, more concise instructions with some help if things went awry. -
Running BIP on Ubuntu!
7 May 2012 | 10:36 amI am a complete Ubuntu (Linux) convert ... my work laptop runs 64 bit Ubuntu and Im very happy with it. Yes I do still need windblows for a few things and for testing but I would say 80-90% of my time is spent in Ubuntu. Not so good is Oracle's support for Ubuntu, some of that I guess, is around Ubuntu being seen primarily for the desktop and not for servers and also Ubuntu's interesting at times, implementation of Linux. Case in point, the recent release of the BI Publisher Trial Edition (see here) we state support for Linux but to be fair, we narrow that down to Oracle Linux Redhat and… -

Collab 12 Highlights
3 May 2012 | 6:19 pmSo I'm sitting here in my Salt Lake office, diligently working away, when the power goes out. Seems the power has gone done for most of the southwestern edge of the county this afternoon. No juice, no wifi, no nothing. Power company says we won't see power before 8 pm. Not too worried about keeping things going around the household (we've socked away hurricane lanterns, candles, and I have the mother of all generators to keep the fridge cold). So, sitting in the peace and quiet, it seems like a good time to update the blog. It's been some time since my last post, Collab 12 happened last week,… -

19 Mar 2012 | 11:22 pmSpent my weekend in Nashville, presenting a couple of workshops as part of an ODTUG-HEUG joint effort at Alliance. Learned that I really dig the Alliance conference. Had to bug out early this year, but stay for the entire conference next year. The hot topic in the audience? Service-based integration. That's mainly driven by the splitting of Peoplesoft HCM and Campus Solutions. Concerns over data stovepipes and maintenance costs of tightly- coupled integrations are also driving the interest here. This is not a small market of customers and users. In a time of reduced state and federal funding,… -

20 Feb 2012 | 10:09 pmI'm flying a bit more these days. Mostly regional flights. Flying gives me the chance to see all types of behavior I'd otherwise never witness. I saw some behavior on a flight last week that really hit home. The plane for this particular flight had an in-flight entertainment system - screens built into the back of each headrest. The airline planned to show a few sitcom reruns, maybe a little exclusive-to-the-airline soft news, some advertising, the usual fare.Anyone familiar with in-flight entertainment systems knows that the big bug-a-boo for that industry is in-flight reliability.
